Prototype testing – cycling map holder

IMG_1636IMG_1637

Here’s a custom cycle map holder I just developed and prototyped. I wanted something to fit the free Sustrans paper route maps and attach securely to my handlebars. It’s constructed with a single piece of flexible acetate, leather edge binds, velcro straps and a pop fastener to close. It should be shower proof, but the weather this week didn’t allow me to test it. What a shame…

A few more tweaks and I plan make them available in my Etsy shop.

New tri-fold wallet layout

A new layout just finished and uploaded to my Etsy shop here. A classic tri-fold card wallet, with plain black outer and bright contrast lining.

This item can be made in different colours/linings, contact me to discuss your requirements here.

Navy leather billfold wallet

Just finished this navy leather billfold wallet, available in my Etsy shop here. It was hand cut from quality fine-grain navy cowhide leather and durably machine stitched with strong nylon thread throughout.

Fully lined with a bright multicolour stripe print fabric and expertly hand finished. The hand punched triangle motif on the front of the wallet shows the contrast lining colours underneath.

A fold down section with 3 card slots flips up to reveal a further 3 card slots. Each card slot holds 2 cards each, so twelve cards in total.

There is a hidden pocket behind the card slots for receipts and papers, and a spacious notes pocket to fit paper money up to 8cm x 20cm.

The coin pocket has a quality metal YKK zip, and the side panel expands to allow easy access to plenty of change.

All cut edges are hand treated for durability and give a superior finish.

I welcome custom orders and variations on current styles, contact me to discuss your requirements here.

Replacement watch strap

Recently made to order for a customer, a replacement watch strap for a Nixon watch. The outer leather is cut from fine-grain dark brown cow hide, the backer is soft sheep nappa leather. The buckle was reused and the original dimensions matched very closely.

I’ve been experimenting with new making techniques in the past week. This piece has an intricately hand cut and inlaid Art Deco style motif of my own design. The individual panels were carefully selected from suede, stamped cow hide and full grain leather to give contrasting textures and carefully machine stitched in place.

Traditional techniques only; hands, tools and sewing machine. No computers!

A few Friday links

black green leather wallet marble lining notesblack green leather wallet marble lining coinsblack green leather wallet marble lining frontI’ve had a productive few days, further refining the construction for my pop coin wallet.

The one above has a marbled, book endpaper style lining I found at Harrogate Knit and Stitch in November 2013. Many different fabric sellers were there, I also spotted a stand promoting Bradford Textile Archive a part of Bradford College, which looks interesting.

I have been exploring my new home city of Bristol by pursuing my interests: record shops (recent discoveries to follow) fabric shops, cinemas and galleries.

As for fabrics, poppypatchwork.co.uk have a wide range of fabrics on offer and are based in nearby Westbury-on-Trym.

Wanted Records in St. Nicholas Market is great for vinyl, think I’ll be back there soon!
